Medical air is a critical component in healthcare environments—used in intensive care units, operating rooms, neonatal wards, and numerous other departments where patient safety is of utmost importance.
In order to ensure this safety, a complete medical air treatment system is required—comprised of ADEC dryers with medical-grade specifications and the appropriate filtration stages. These components work synergistically to eliminate moisture, oil, gases, and particles, ensuring the delivery of purified air throughout the healthcare facility.
That’s why our ADEC adsorption dryers have been meticulously engineered to meet the highest international standards for medical air purity. These systems form the backbone of our Medical Compressed Air Stations and play a pivotal role in delivering safe, breathable air in clinical settings.
We are proud to announce that the ADEC line of dryers has been officially certified by the National Centre for Research and Technological Development (CERTH/ΕΚΕΤΑ). This certification independently verifies the dryers' ability to ensure the consistent purity of air supplied in Medical Compressed Air Stations.
Why Medical Air Purity Matters
Medical air must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as oil, water vapor, carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and solid particles. These impurities can pose serious health risks, especially when administered directly to patients through respiratory treatments. Moreover, high humidity levels and particulate contamination can damage or shorten the life of critical medical equipment.
The European Pharmacopoeia, alongside ISO 7396-1 and HTM 02-01, outlines strict quality standards for medical air in healthcare settings. As such, all components of a Medical Compressed Air Station must operate in synergy to consistently deliver air that is not only breathable but medically safe.
ADEC Adsorption Dryers: Tested, Certified, Trusted
The ADEC dryers, developed by G. Samaras, are adsorption-based air drying systems specifically designed for the stringent requirements of healthcare facilities. These systems remove humidity through desiccant materials, achieving dew point levels well below -40°C (equal to-56°C@atm) (up to -70°C pressurised), a critical threshold for microbial inhibition and protection of moisture-sensitive equipment.
In collaboration with CERTH (ΕΚΕΤΑ), a full performance evaluation was conducted under operational conditions. The laboratory tested the quality of the air produced by the ADEC dryers and documented the following key results:
Dew Point Performance: Output air exhibited a dew point below -40°C, ensuring dry and sterile conditions for safe inhalation and equipment use.
Oil and Hydrocarbons: No traces of oil were detected, confirming the efficiency of aerosol and vapor removal.
CO & CO₂ Levels: Far below the permissible limits, protecting patients from respiratory and neurological risks.
SO₂ & NOx: Either undetected or significantly below critical thresholds, reducing inflammatory risks.
Particulates: No detectable solid particles were found, verifying the high performance of the integrated filtration.
Sensors
All ADEC dryers are equipped with dew point sensors and an economizer controller that activates the system only when drying is necessary, optimizing energy use.
Key features include:
Real-time dew point display via LCD screen
Programmable alarm set points
Dew point dependent mode options: -20°C, -40°C, -50°C, -70°C (pressurized) or user-defined
Fixed pressure dew point mode with same configurable options
And optional with in-line sensors monitoring VOC (oil vapor), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and solid particles.
Telemonitoring
Our systems support advanced remote monitoring and control capabilities, including:
Battery backup and DC UPS readiness
Firmware upgrades via TCP/IP with zero downtime
Modbus over TCP/IP support
Web-based remote access (no extra software required)
Online visualization and daily data logging (sampling every 15 seconds, 24h depth) for plant pressure trends
Remote parameter settings (code-protected area for authorized personnel)
Web application integration via Medimote platform
Mobile app connectivity for on-the-go system management
Tandem Dryers: Operation in Pairs
ADEC dryers can be configured in multi-dryer arrays, allowing up to four units to be managed simultaneously with intelligent switching capabilities via an optional L6/L9 controller board.
Changeover operation can be triggered based on:
Time of operation
Dew point
Pressure
Flow
CO/CO₂ levels
This design ensures optimal load distribution, maximum uptime, and energy efficiency.
Designed for Modern Hospitals
The ADEC dryers are an integral component of the Medical Compressed Air Stations engineered and installed by G. Samaras. These stations are designed with modern hospital demands in mind—where reliability, compliance, and flexibility are non-negotiable.
Each ADEC system is developed to deliver:
High performance and energy efficiency, thanks to intelligent controllers and sensor-based operation.
Modular and scalable configurations, adaptable to both small clinics and large, multi-department hospitals.
Long-lasting durability, utilizing robust construction materials that ensure long-term functionality even under continuous use.
Redundancy and failover logic, especially when used in tandem mode, to guarantee continuous operation even during maintenance or peak demand.
Full compliance with ISO 7396-1,htm 02-01 and European Pharmacopoeia standards, offering peace of mind for biomedical engineers and hospital administrators alike.
Incorporating ADEC dryers into a hospital’s infrastructure means investing in a system that is engineered for precision, built for longevity, and backed by certified performance.
Certified Peace of Mind
The independent certification by CERTH provides more than technical validation—it offers hospitals the assurance that their medical air systems are fully compliant with international safety and performance standards.
As G. Samaras continues to innovate in the field of medical gas infrastructure, our commitment to quality, compliance, and patient care remains unwavering. ADEC adsorption dryers represent a critical advancement in ensuring that every breath of medical air is safe, clean, and reliable.
